📘 This article explains how to define your brand and your competitors' brands in the AI Visibility dashboard, part of Botify's Analytics Suite, available as an option with all Botify plans.
Overview
AI Visibility uses an LLM to detect the brands mentioned in AI answers. AI platforms do not always name a brand the same way: they can use abbreviations, full legal names, or product-line names. On the Brands tab of the AI Visibility settings, you control how these names are grouped, so Share of Voice and other brand metrics reflect your brand portfolio the way your organization reports on it.
You can define the following for your own brand and for your competitors' brands:
Aliases: Other names or spellings of the same brand (for example, "The Home Depot" for Home Depot). A mention of an alias counts as a mention of the brand, and an answer that mentions both the brand and its alias counts once.
Sub-brands: Separate brands that roll up to a parent brand (for example, Zappos under Amazon). A sub-brand has its own score. The parent brand's family score counts each answer once, even when the answer mentions both the parent and a sub-brand.
Domains: Websites that belong to a brand or sub-brand. Citations of these domains count toward that brand.
👉 Brand definitions apply to all past and future data in the project. After you apply a change, historical mentions and Share of Voice reflect the new definitions, so your reported numbers for past periods can change. Tell your stakeholders before you apply significant changes.
Viewing your brands
Go to Analytics > AI Visibility > Settings.
Click the Brands tab. The list shows the brands detected in your project. Your brand is identified with a You label.
Use the search field to find a brand.
Editing a brand's aliases, domains, and sub-brands
On the Brands tab, click the brand you want to edit. The brand details open in a panel on the right, on the Main brand tab.
Add or remove aliases and domains.
To add a sub-brand, click the Sub-brands tab, then click + Add and select the brand.
Click Add to changes. Your changes are added to the list of pending changes; they are not applied yet.
Defining a relation between brands
You can also classify a brand from the list on the Brands > Explorer tab:
In the brand's Actions menu, click Define relation.
Choose whether the brand is part of your brand or a competitor, then choose the type of relation:
Part of your brand: A sub-brand or an alias of your brand.
Competitor: A direct competitor, a sub-brand of a competitor, or an alias of a competitor.
If the brand is a sub-brand or an alias, select its parent brand.
Click Add to changes.
Applying pending changes
Changes you add are held in Pending changes until you apply them, so you can review several changes together.
To apply all pending changes, click Apply N change(s), where N is the number of pending changes. AI Visibility then recalculates your reports with the new brand definitions.
To cancel all pending changes, click Discard all. You cannot discard an individual change.
How brand families appear in reports
In the Brands Explorer, a parent brand row shows the family score, which includes its sub-brands. Expand the row to see the parent brand's own score and a row for each sub-brand.
Competitor sets contain main brands only; the sub-brands and aliases of each brand in a set are included automatically. Refer to Managing AI Visibility Competitor Sets.
