Working with Keyword Groups

Updated over a year ago

πŸ“˜ This article provides information on using the Keyword Groups feature of RealKeywords, a part of Botify's Analytics Suite, available with all Botify plans.

Overview

A Keyword Group consists of rules you define for keywords to include and, optionally, exclude from the group. The following rule types are used for both keywords to include and exclude from the group:

  • Exact: Botify will look for search keywords that exactly match the keywords in this type of rule (e.g., for the keyword "seo", an exact rule will only return matches that are "seo"; it will not include "seos").

  • Contains: Botify will look for search keywords that contain the keywords in this type of rule (e.g., for the keyword "seo", a contains rule will return all matches that include variants of "seo", such as "seo okr", "Botify seo", and "dynamic rendering seo").

  • Regex: Botify will look for search keywords that match the regular expression identified in this type of rule (e.g., for the regular expression ".*Botify.*", a regex rule will return all keywords that match the expression, including "Botify", "Botify careers", and "How to use Botify").

When you create a Keyword Group, you can preview these rules to help you determine if the results are as expected.

About Keyword Group Limits

You can have up to 50,000 total rules for all keyword groups (e.g., ten groups of 5,000 rules). If the total number of rules across all of your keyword groups exceeds 45,000 a warning message will display to let you know that you are approaching the limit. If you reach the limit, you cannot save the group with the new rules. The limit is on the number of rules that define the groups, not the number of keywords contained in a group. This means you can have a group with one rule that includes hundreds of thousands of keywords, but it will still be counted as one unique rule.

Creating a Keyword Group

To create a keyword group:

  1. Navigate to Analytics > RealKeywords > Keyword Groups.

  2. Click the Create a new Keyword Group button. The "Create your Keywords Group" dialog displays.

  6. To include a new rule type in the Keyword Group, click the Add a new set of rules link and repeat the steps above.

  7. Identify keywords to be excluded from the Keyword Group in the Exclude Keywords section, using the steps above as guidance. These rules will overrule the rules identified in the Include Keywords section.
