Defining Branded Keywords

Updated over a year ago

πŸ“˜ This article explains how to define your branded keywords to be used in RealKeywords with Google Search Console (GSC) data. RealKeywords, part of Botify's Analytics Suite, is available with all Botify plans.

Overview

Defining your branded keywords reveals organic search performance on your branded keywords and enables you to filter RealKeywords reports by branded and unbranded keywords. Navigate to RealKeywords > Overview to view keyword performance segmented by branded and non-branded keywords:

or filter any RealKeywords report by branded metrics available in the Rankings dataset:

Setting Branded Keywords

To create or update branded keywords for your project:

  1. Navigate to Project Settings > Keywords.

  2. List the keywords you want to identify for your brand in the Branded Keywords section, one per line. Botify will identify matches to these keywords in your keyword reports. This text field only supports a "contains" rule; wildcards are not supported.

  3. Click Save. Botify starts a RealKeywords daily update. Your first RealKeywords report will be available within a few hours.

  4. Start a crawl in SiteCrawler.

πŸ‘‰ You must run a crawl after defining or updating your branded keywords to include accurate page data to be paired with the GSC data. For example, if your last crawl was at the beginning of the month and you define branded keywords in the middle of the month, you will either be missing URL details (e.g., page title, page rank, inlinks) because Botify has yet to crawl these pages, or the data may be out of date.
