Configuring Push to Bing

Updated over 3 months ago

📘 This article explains how to set up the Push to Bing destination in SmartIndex. SmartIndex is part of Botify's Activation Suite, available with a Botify Pro or Enterprise plan.

Overview

Push to Bing is a SmartIndex destination that lets you send your new and updated content directly to Bing’s index.

👉 If you are using the SpeedWorkers Bing Content Submission feature, continue using it and do not configure Push to Bing in SmartIndex.

About Bing Submission Limits

SmartIndex is bound by the Bing limit of the number of URLs submitted daily and monthly. If you are on a Botify Enterprise plan, you can contact your CSM to request an increase to this limit.

Configuring a Push to Bing destination includes the following steps:

Connecting to Bing’s Content Submission

To connect to Bing’s URL Submission solution, you will add Botify’s smartindex@botify.com user to your Bing Webmaster Tools account.

  1. Log in to your Bing Webmaster Tools account.

  2. Navigate to Security & Privacy > User Management, and click Add user.

  3. Add the smartindex@botify.com user with read-write access.

  4. In the SmartIndex destination configuration, click Connect.

❗️The smartindex@botify.com user in your Bing Webmaster Tools account must have read-write access to sync with SmartIndex.

Identifying Decision Rules

Configure decision rules to determine which pages to push to Bing based on the HTTP status code they return.

  1. Select the sections to push to the destination or push to all sections.

  2. Set the rules for each section, then save. When these conditions are met, pages will be pushed to the destination.

Rules

  • Status Code: The status codes selected here identify the pages to be pushed to the destination based on the latest crawl.

    • 200: 200 status code + no canonical or self-canonical

    • 200 duplicated: 200 status code + non-self-canonical

    • 200 No index: 200 status code + noindex tag

    • Redirect: 301, 302, 307, or 308 status code

    • Not found: 404 or 410 status code

  • Force push after (days): The number of days after which pages will be pushed to the destination, even when no updates are detected.
