πŸ“˜ This article demonstrates how to create a RealKeywords report to find the keywords you have lost year over year. RealKeywords is part of Botify's Analytics Suite, available with all Botify plans.

Overview

Monitoring lost keywords year-over-year (YoY) helps you understand fluctuations in your website's organic traffic and quickly resolve issues before they cause more significant problems to maintain your SEO strategy's long-term health. If keywords that previously drove significant traffic are no longer ranking well, this can directly impact your overall traffic and conversions.

Creating the Report

To quickly identify the keywords lost YoY, create a simple report of impressions in RealKeywords to reveal gaps in your content and SEO strategies, technical issues, increased competition, and search algorithm changes.

  1. Navigate to RealKeywords > Keywords Explorer.

  2. Add the following filters:
    "Impressions on Compared Period > 0"
    "Impressions on Current Period = 0"
    ​

  3. Click Select metrics & dimensions to add columns for impressions on both periods.
    ​


    The report shows all keywords that had impressions in the previous period but not the current period.
    ​

Check the Losing Data Dimensions table on the RealKeywords Overview page for a snapshot of the keywords that lost the most impressions in the current period vs. the previous period.
