📘 This article explains how to set up and manage AlertPanel settings. AlertPanel is part of Botify's Intelligence Suite, available with a Botify Pro or Enterprise plan.
Overview
The AlertPanel Settings page defines all settings on which the alerts issued by AlertPanel are based. Only Admin users can change AlertPanel settings, except Email Alerting, where individual users can enable or disable their own alerts.
To configure AlertPanel settings:
Navigate to Intelligence > AlertPanel > Settings.
Configure settings as desired, referring to the following field descriptions for guidance.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Global Settings
The AlertPanel Global Settings include the following:
AlertPanel Crawl Settings
AlertPanel includes dedicated crawl settings specifically for the URLs you want to monitor. This AlertPanel crawl is separate from your project’s regular crawl settings in SiteCrawler.
Crawler Speed
The crawler speed is the speed at which Botify crawls the URLs in the List of URLs to Crawl. By default, the crawl speed is three URLs/second. If the domain is not validated, the crawler speed cannot exceed three URLs/sec. The AlertPanel crawl and regular crawl in SiteCrawler can be run simultaneously.
Crawl Frequency
The AlertPanel crawl of the URLs identified in the List of URLs to Crawl is once every 24 hours. This crawl frequency is fixed and cannot be adjusted.
Start Time
The time of day when the AlertPanel crawl begins, in 24-hour format. Use the dropdown lists to select the desired start time.
List of URLs to Crawl
Submit the URLs of the most strategic pages on your site to receive Botify alerts. Once submitted, Botify will check these URLs and flag any invalid URLs that may be removed. We recommend you include your top-level URLs (i.e., pages included in your main navigation), high-valued URLs (i.e., pages that drive substantial traffic, generate revenue, etc.), and a sample of URLs from each page template (e.g., segment the URLs on your site by page type and for each page type, identify the top-performing pages by the number of visits). Use the URL Explorer metrics “Is Indexable” and “Active from Organic Providers” to quickly gain an idea of pages on your site that Botify recommends including in AlertPanel monitoring.
Automated List: Select this option to use an automatically generated list of URLs to crawl daily. Botify will generate this list by crawling the top pages of your website, beginning with the start URL defined in your Crawl Manager settings and going up to a page depth of four to get a representative and stable scope of pages.
Manual List: Select this option to submit URLs via a plain .txt file with one URL per line.
Protect Traffic
Because Botify aims to protect your site traffic, AlertPanel only monitors your active pages with business value by default. A page is active if it received at least one visit from organic search over the last month, based on data from your analytics provider.
Protect only active pages: This option is recommended unless you do not have analytics connected to your Botify project. Your analytics provider is identified in Project Settings > Data Station. Note that visits from logs or the Google Search Console are not currently used in AlertPanel.
Protect all pages: Select this option if you want to ignore the default and have AlertPanel monitor all pages defined in the List of URLs to Crawl.
SiteCrawler Settings
This section is informational only to call attention to AlertPanel's inheritance of the following SiteCrawler settings. Any changes to these settings in SiteCrawler will affect AlertPanel:
Start URL
Timezone
JS settings
Static IP
Desktop user-agent
Mobile user-agent
HTTP
Basic Authentification
Gzip activated
Custom HTTP header
Allowed domains
Activation
The Activation toggle controls whether the AlertPanel daily crawl is enabled or disabled. Slide the toggle to the left to disable the crawl, or to the right to enable the crawl.
Logs Settings
This section is informational only to identify the log files that are being reviewed by AlertPanel are those defined in the LogAnalyzer Logfile Explorer.
Robots.txt Settings
AlertPanel looks for your Robots.txt files weekly and analyzes them daily so you can receive alerts when changes are made to Robots.txt files. Botify can monitor up to 1,000 Robots.txt files.
The files currently identified are in the Robots.txt Files list. To manually add a new file, type the full location of the file in the text box, then click the Add robots.txt file locations link. Click the Delete icon next to the name of any Robots.txt files you no longer want to be scanned by AlertPanel.
Contact Preferences
The Contact Preferences section of the AlertPanel Settings page contains settings for Slack and MS Teams integrations and email alert preferences for individual users.
To manage your Slack and MS Teams integrations, please refer to the following articles:
The Email Alerting section lists the names of users who have been added to the project via Project Settings > Team, both Admin and Guest users. All alerts will be sent to all users with notifications enabled. You cannot customize the alerts users receive through this setting; refer to the Managing Alert Groups article for information on using teams in Organizations to identify Alert Group recipients.
To change a user's notification preference:
Slide the toggle next to the user name to the right to enable notifications or to the left to disable notifications.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
If you disable email notifications here, the user will not receive alerts for all Alert Groups where the AlertPanel Users recipient option is checked. If the user is also part of a team defined as a recipient in any Alert Group, he will keep receiving notifications for those alerts.
