Working with ActionBoard

Updated over a year ago

πŸ“˜ This article provides information on using ActionBoard, part of Botify's Intelligence Suite, available with all Botify plans.

Overview

ActionBoard provides valuable insight into issues that are affecting your organic search traffic. ActionBoard is organized into the following pages:

  • Recommended Actions: This is the landing page for ActionBoard, where all recommended actions are displayed. Refer to the Understanding Action Items section for more information.

  • Goal-Based Guidance Pages: These pages provide insight into how the prioritized actions relate to higher-level SEO goals and how the actions will help to improve each issue.

Access these pages through the main navigation bar at Intelligence > ActionBoard.

Understanding Action Items

The ActionBoard "All Actions" page is organized into cards for recommended actions. Recommended actions are based on the current date selected at the top of the page and are displayed in the order dictated by your filter and sort settings. Each action includes the following:

  1. Recommended action: Either click on the recommendation name or the Quickview icon to open a popup that includes a detailed description of the recommendation, including the reason why this action should improve your SEO, the scope, a breakdown of the elements that affect the priority level, and links to the filtered view in SiteCrawler URL Explorer.

  2. Theme: The SEO category in which the action is grouped.

  3. Segment: The percentage of all pages affected by this issue within the selected segment.

  4. Priority level: Hover over the priority to display the criteria from which the priority level was derived. The priority represents the projected impact on the organic search performance of the associated URLs when the action is addressed.

An upward or downward-facing arrow is displayed next to the priority when there is an increase or decrease in the projected impact of the action over the selected period, and the action card background is shaded to draw attention:

  5. Sparkline chart: The sparkline chart provides a snapshot of the movement in the number of URLs impacted over time. The chart includes 15 crawls in the selected period plus a few weeks prior. Hover over the sparkline to view the number of URLs affected on specific crawl dates.

  6. Number of URLs impacted: This is the number of URLs impacted by the metric as of the most recent crawl date in the selected period. An upward or downward-facing arrow is displayed next to the number of URLs when there is an increase or decrease in the number of impacted URLs over the selected period:

  7. Link to SiteCrawler URL Explorer: Access a filtered view for the metric in SiteCrawler's URL Explorer by clicking the URL Explorer icon, pie chart, or Open URL Explorer button in the action detail popup.

Filtering and Sorting Action Items

Customize your ActionBoard by filtering and sorting in the following ways:

ab_sortfilter.jpg
  1. Dates: The compared dates demonstrate movement in the issues over time. Expand the dropdowns at the top of the page to select dates from the previous 20 crawls. You can also change the compared dates on any goal-based guidance page.

  2. Segments: Recalculate the prioritized list of actions according to your preferred scope based on the segments you have defined or your breadcrumb structured data. This allows you to exclude the parts of your website that are not an SEO concern and focus on the recommended actions as they apply to a specific category. When you filter the list of actions for specific segments, an action that had a β€œMedium” priority for your entire site may become β€œHigh” since the priority is recalculated based on the selected segments. You can also select segments on any of the goal-based guidance pages.

  3. Themes: The themes in ActionBoard classify the recommended actions according to SEO categories. By default, actions from all themes are included in the list of recommended actions. To limit the display to specific themes, expand the Themes dropdown list and select the themes you want to display.

  5. Sort: Choose to sort the recommended actions by priority, with the highest priority recommendations displayed first, or by URL, with the most affected URLs displayed first.

Hiding Actions

To exclude recommended actions from your primary list of recommendations, click the Hide icon to move the recommendation to the Hidden Action Items tab. Action items you hide are only moved from your user account's view; it does not change the view for other users.
