About Projects

Updated over a year ago

πŸ“˜ This article explains the role of projects in Botify.

Overview

Projects organize your data in Botify, including the analyses from Botify crawls, your integrated log data, and third-party data. Each project is a workspace for crawls, where analyses are automatically compared to visualize trends and measure changes. For efficient teamwork, share your reports and analysis settings by granting access to collaborators on a project basis. Botify creates projects on your behalf. Refer to the Modifying Crawl Settings article for information on managing project settings.

About Ad-Hoc Projects

Ad-hoc projects enable you to crawl a section of your website or a pre-production environment for testing purposes. Ad-hoc projects are associated with your contracted web property projects and have the following restrictions:

  • Ad-hoc crawl reports are available for three months only.

  • There is limited access to Botify features and settings in ad-hoc projects.

  • Third-party analytics integrated with your Botify project are not available in ad-hoc projects.

  • Crawls in ad-hoc projects are subject to the crawl credits for the associated web property defined by your Botify plan.

Creating an Ad-Hoc Project

When you create an ad-hoc project, it is associated with the user identified as the owner of the associated web property project.

To create an ad-hoc project:

  1. From the Botify Welcome page, click the New Ad-Hoc Project link below the project for the web property to which you want to associate the ad-hoc project.

  2. Set the following project settings:

    • Ad-Hoc Project Name: The unique name that will identify the ad-hoc project on the Welcome page and in the report title.

    • Web Property: Select the name of the web property to which the ad-hoc project is associated.

    • Start URL: The full URL of where the crawl will begin, including the protocol (e.g., https://www.botify.com). This is typically the website's home page. To upload a file with start URLs or crawl from a sitemap instead, click Save and go to Settings after completing all fields to access additional project settings.

    • Max # of analyzed URLs: Optionally identify a limit on the number of URLs to crawl. If left blank, Botify will crawl until all pages are found or any subscription-based limit is reached.

    • Crawl all subdomains: Check this option if your site has subdomains that you want to be included in the crawl (e.g., support.botify.com). By default, Botify crawls all site subdomains. Uncheck this option to limit the crawl to only the subdomain of the specified Start URL.

  3. Click Save or Save and go to Settings to define advanced crawl settings.

Botify will check the project settings and recommend any optimizations found. From here, you can start a crawl or leave and launch it later from the Welcome page.

Accessing Ad-Hoc Projects

To access ad-hoc projects:

  1. Click the project name in the tile below the associated web property on the Welcome page to access project settings.

  2. Click the date next to the project name to access the specific ad-hoc crawl report.
