Annotating Trend Charts

Overview

Annotations enable you to directly correlate events to performance movements on your trend charts in Botify. This facilitates team collaboration when investigating movements and assessing the impact of changes, and communicating the full data story to stakeholders.

Identifying when you integrated with Google's bulk data export is an excellent use case for annotating trend charts:

Adding Annotations

Adding annotations to your trend charts lets you track and collaborate on specific data points. Annotations for all trend charts in Botify are accessible to all project members.

To add an annotation to a trend:

  1. Click the + icon when hovering over the desired data point.​

  2. Optionally type or select a date other than the default.

  3. Type the note, then click Save. The note is saved with your username and a numeric indicator displays at the bottom of the chart to identify the number of annotations at the same data point.

To add an annotation to a data point where an annotation already exists:

  1. Click the numeric link to open the Annotation popup.

  2. Click the Add annotation link, then follow the steps above. The annotation is added to the bottom of the list.

Editing and Deleting Annotations

All users with project access can edit and delete any annotation. All users, including guest users, can view annotations by hovering over the annotation link:

To edit or delete an annotation, click the annotation link:

  • Click the pencil icon to edit the annotation, then click Save.

  • Click the trash icon to delete the annotation. The annotation is immediately deleted and cannot be recovered.
