How Landing Pages are Determined in ActionBoard

Updated over a year ago

📘 This article provides information on how ActionBoard landing pages are determined. ActionBoard is part of Botify's Intelligence Suite, available with all Botify plans.

Overview

Some Goal-Based Guidance pages in ActionBoard relate to landing pages. In Botify, landing pages are defined as those that should receive organic search traffic, such as:

  • Product pages

  • Product category pages (i.e., the first product page if there is pagination)

Determining Your Landing Pages

As landing pages are a new designation in Botify, we used a simple method to determine which of your site pages to classify as landing pages. Essentially, we use the pages within a segment that receive the most traffic from Google. Using ActionBoard and visits data from analytics, we:

  1. Compute the number of visits from Google over a 30-day period for each (segment x URL query parameter) combination.

  2. Sort those combinations by the number of visits from Google.

  3. The pages in the (segment x URL query parameter) combination with the most visits from Google, but below the cumulated 90% of the total visits, are defined as landing pages.

If you do not have your analytics data integrated with Botify, we use visits data from your logs.

In the following example, we consider the Product pages with the following URL parameters ?ref=?CNMD=?AQRW=?emeagroup= until a cumulated 89.96% visits from Google is reached (below 90%). This means the product pages with the ?select= URL parameters are not considered since it would bring the cumulated visits above 90%.

Locating Your Landing Pages

Botify has defined your landing pages and you cannot currently change their designation as landing pages. To see which of your pages are classified as landing pages, add the “Is Landing” field in the SiteCrawler or RealKeywords Explorers.

👉 The “Is Landing” field is different from “Is Landing (user defined)”, which you can manually set up in Botify’s Segment Editor.
