Overview
The Rank stage of the SEO funnel highlights provides insights into increasing your page traffic. When the Rank tab is active, links to relevant goal-based guidance pages are displayed at the bottom of the Analytics Overview page.
Find answers to the following questions in the Rank stage:
Can you increase the number of pages ranking near the top three results in Google?
Identify âquick winâ opportunities where you can make SEO updates to pages to improve their click-through rate drastically. Access a RealKeywords report of pages with an average ranking of position 4 - 11 (i.e., "striking distance") using the âPages near top three resultsâ Explorer bookmark.
Are your pages' HTML tags optimized?
Improve ranking performance by adding the exact match keyword to your HTML tags. Use the âMain keyword not in titleâ Explorer bookmark to access a RealKeywords report of page titles missing the main keyword the page ranks for.
Does thin content prevent you from getting impressions?
Evaluate how your content quality is affecting your rankings. Use the Content section of RealKeywords to identify the segments that perform best and on which page types you should focus efforts. The "Content Size By Position" chart shows how your pages rank segmented by the number of words. If there is a general pattern where shorter articles receive fewer clicks and impressions, consider reviewing these articles and adding additional information related to the keywords you want to rank for.
To access this dashboard, navigate to RealKeywords > Content.
Do you have multiple pages ranking for the same query?
Consider whether some pages are cannibalizing each other's search performance, limiting the ability for these pages to rank as high in search results. Improve rankings by identifying which pages should target certain keywords so there is less overlap between pages. Access a RealKeywords report of non-brand queries in which your domain has multiple pages ranking using the "Cannibalization" Explorer bookmark.
Which topics are generating the highest amount of interest?
It can be helpful to understand the types of content that resonate with users and perform well in search. Access a RealKeywords report of main keywords experiencing a rising trend in clicks and impressions (based on the last five crawls available) using the âSmart keywords performanceâ Explorer bookmark.
Are you optimizing your new keywords to fit with searcher intent?
To better match user intent and solidify your rankings for new keywords, it is useful to monitor potential new keyword phrases or sub-topics to supplement your existing content. Add the âIs New On Current Periodâ filter to a Keywords Explorer report to find the keywords you have recently started ranking for and their associated URLs.
What is the impact of your non-branded keywords?
It is beneficial to know how brand vs. non-brand performance is trending and which page types rely more or less on non-brand keyword performance. Use the Keyword section in RealKeywords to see charts and data visualizations segmenting search traffic by brand vs. non-brand keywords.
To access this dashboard, navigate to RealKeywords > Keywords.
Investigate keywords that lost clicks
Evaluate click and impression performance by Keyword, URL, or Pagetype. Use the âKeywords that lost clicksâ Explorer bookmark in RealKeywords to access a report of the search queries experiencing click and impression declines.
Should your Unknown Pages rank?
It is important to be aware of your Unknown, or Orphan, pages generating clicks when you do not internally link to them. If these pages are still relevant, add internal links (or inlinks) to these pages to improve page rank and generate additional traffic. Use the âOrphan pages with trafficâ Explorer bookmark in RealKeywords to access a report of Orphan Pages receiving traffic.
Should your non-indexable Pages rank?
You should check if you are sending mixed signals to Google if your pages generate clicks when they send signals that should prevent them from being indexed in search results. For example, Google may not understand or trust your canonical signals, so you should serve a more adequate substitute. Use the âNon-indexable pages with trafficâ Explorer bookmark in RealKeywords to see a report of non-indexable pages with traffic.
